One Lap Competitors pit stop in Cleveland…

May 8th, 2010 ron No comments

Some of the One Lap of America competitors stopped off at the Brew Kettle Friday on the way back to South Bend for their final day of competition. I stopped down to hang out and have a beer with our friends from Topspeed. A good time was had by all. The competitors of this event come from a wide background and make for a unique group of people.

Rescued a puppy, all night Porsche modding, and gods fighting…

May 6th, 2010 ron No comments

It’s been a long 36 hours here. It started off when we arrived at the shop Tuesday morning to hear a dog barking, howling, and crying like crazy. Upon further inspection we found the pup sitting on the sill of a second story window, outside the window crying bloody murder. There wasn’t much we could do at the moment so we tried talking to it and getting it to calm down and eventually it crawled back inside the window and quieted down. A couple hours later it was back at it and crying like crazy. That afternoon we bumped into the owner of the property and he informed us that the occupants were supposed to be moved out the previous Friday. I guess that explains why there was a bunch of their household crap thrown out on the tree lawn earlier last week. Sometime around 7pm the dog was back on the outside of the window crying again. I had enough at the point. I jumped the fence and Dan tossed a ladder over to me and I took the dog out of the window. The poor thing was almost skin and bones and you could tell it had not eaten or had water in days. These people left this puppy for dead. It’s a wonder why I like animals more than most humans! I have no intention of keeping it but it’s hard to fight the urge not to. We’re taking care of her for the moment and she is constantly playing with my two other dogs. This little shit is quite amazing, it’s 90% house trained already and has a solid 30″ vertical jump. She’s currently sleeping on my lap and we’re taking her to a friends this afternoon who is interested in adopting her. We’re going to see how she gets with their current dog, I hope it goes well as it would be a great home for her.

Doug from Topspeed in Georgia has been kicking ass in the One Lap of America this week with his Porsche GT2. Driver Leh Keen has put the Porsche at the front of the pack at every road course they’ve been to thus far. Doug called Tuesday afternoon saying they were in route to my place after the Gateway event. A bracket for there rear sway bar had broke and Leh had essentially been driving the car without a rear sway bar as the last event. They showed up about midnight and Doug and I went to work as Leh caught some much needed shut eye on the office floor. We got everything fixed up and they hit the road about 6am without a minute to spare. They had to be at Mid Ohio by 7:30 to make the first session. They cleaned house in both track sessions with the nearest competitor more than 5 seconds behind them! Those results make an all night effort well worth it. Congrats guys!

I was drained after a long night at the shop and getting basically no sleep. Just as I was ready to crash Wednesday night a wicked storm rolled across the lakefront of Cleveland. I grabbed the camera and the tripod and headed for the lake. I got some awesome pictures of the gods fighting before the camera battery died. What a way to end the day, the lightning was amazing!

Congrats to Mike Wohler!

November 16th, 2009 ron No comments

Mike headed down to the NC DSM track day at Fayetteville Motorsports Park yesterday to get some passes in. The progress of the car may not be as fast as Mike wants as he’s been dealing with a bit of bad luck parts breakage the entire season that has slowed his progress down. He has run a number of mid to low 9’s this year only to have the weekend end early due to some shit luck. Well this weekend it all came together for him and he got his first 8 second pass. The promising part is there is a lot more to be had out of the car. The 60′ times keep dropping as Mike gets used to the car and gets it dialed in more and I’d guess to say that this car has a 8.2-8.3pass in her the way it sits.

Congrats Mike! I hope that your dedication and perseverance are starting to pay off as your goals are achieved. We’re proud of ya brother!

Reichen’s EVO2 hits the dyno…

September 30th, 2009 ron No comments

Mike wanted to try out a new intake manifold from DV/DT and went up to P&L Motorsports to use there dyno. He’s still using the Borg Warner 74mm on the T4 set-up we built him a few years back. For 40psi this is a spectacular amount of power. The exciting part is that we have built him a new set-up for the car. It’s something a bit unconventional and IF it works the car should make another 200-300hp more.

EVO Replacemenent External Dump o2 Housing – Prototype #2

September 3rd, 2009 ron No comments

I’m a little late in getting pics up and most of you have probably seen pictures of our EVO Replacement o2 Housing already. I thought I’d throw some pics up real quick of the 2nd prototype that we built and add a quick blurb. This is VERY similar to our production unit and will have pictures of one up shortly.

People have been asking for this item for a while. I heard them but pretended not to hear.  Until the latest revolution of upgraded stock frame bolt on turbos I thought messing with stock frame turbos was a futile exercise. While I feel these stock frame turbos can not provide the power and acceleration of our Shearer Fab Turbo Kits, they do fill a nice niche for those looking to make a bit more power than the stock turbos can provide. This is where our new replacement o2 housing comes into play and provides a nice solution to add up to 30whp to your bolt on turbo. After seeing some of the junk o2 housings that have been marketed so powerfully onto the plate of EVO owners I thought some might appreciate a properly built piece that is built to perform, constructed properly and won’t fall apart, fits properly, and looks good. This o2 housing in constructed ENTIRELY of Stainless Steel and brings the quality to the table that you expect in every Shearer Fab product.

The EVO o2 housing presented a couple unique challenges to build it properly. First was the tight confines between the turbine outlet and exhaust inlet flanges, there was not much room to make a proper bend and left zero room for error. Second was the large and oddly shaped outlet port of the internal wastegate. The first issue was easy to resolve. The second issue was addressed by having a super sweet turbine outlet flange made that has a 3d machined transition for the oddly shape internal wastegate port.  The other o2 dumps commonly feature a simple round entry hole into a 1.75″ diameter dumptube. This is hardly adequate for proper flow and causes the wastegate to perform insufficiently. The 3d machined transition in our flange allows the wategate gas to flow smoothly into a large 2″ diameter dumptube and allows the wastegate to work properly. Also please review the test results from Prototype #1, http://forums.evolutionm.net/vendor-announcements/433677-shearer-manifolds-02-dump-released.html.

Price is $442.14.

2009 DSM Shootout

August 21st, 2009 ron No comments

2:30pm August 14th came, it’s a Friday afternoon and we were in a rush to close shop and hit the road to make the journey to downtown Wakeman, Oh to attend Buschur Racing’s 17th Annual DSM Shootout. For some it’s just another race weekend. For others it’s a gathering of friends from across the country, who may only see one another once a year, at this annual event. This year marked my tenth year attending the shootout and it’s the first year that I’ve felt “old”.  There has been a lot of disparity in the community over the last year and the enthusiasm from this new generation of DSM’ers was quite refreshing.

Despite the sun and blazing heat the weekend was a blast from start to finish. Saturday’s Dyno Day and Car Show packed the small town of Wakeman from one end to the other. The village put on an excellent BBQ with chicken and ribs for the taking. Some impressive machinery filled the grounds from Scott Glassbrook’s RWD Talon, Yusuf’s 9 second EVO 2 street car, to AWD Motorsport’s 8 second EVO, Buschur’s 9.0 EVO 8 street car, CBRDs road race car, and the list goes on.

Race time came too early Sunday morning as we rolled into the track with just 3 hours of sleep. The day quickly got HOT and the temps were in the mid 90’s most of the day. The cars were down on power from the extreme heat and the track temps were through the roof. In typical Norwalk fashion the track crew didn’t let the heat get in the way of delivering a top notch racing surface. The track was packed with racers and spectators and everyone was in great spirit as lots of excellent times were popping up on the score board. All classes had fast fields and the competition was tight in several of the rounds that I saw. Every year this race gets bigger and this year was definitely the largest to date.

I like to give a big thanks to all of the Shearer Fab Q16 competitors for making it out. There was an excellent turnout of competitors as over 21 cars tried to qualify for the field in hopes to take home the big payout put up by Shearer Fab and AWD Motorsports There was some excellent competition as the class got closer to the finals. Big congrats to Jared Early for taking home the $2500 top prize and also for running his first 8 second pass in the finals!

Shearer Fabrications/AWD Motorsports Quick 16
Winner, Jared Early, 89 Conquest, 8.961@154.26. $2500 cash
Runner -Up, Allan Friedman, 03 EVO, 9.784@145.75. $1500 cash
Semi-Michael Wohler. $500 cash
Semi-Nick Abele. $500 cash

I saw our product all over the grounds this weekend and I’d like to say THANK YOU to everyone who runs our product! The continued support is so appreciated that I could never attempt to put it into words. Also I’d like to give special mention a couple customers that finished in the money over the weekend, if I forgot anyone I apologize as this is coming off the top of my head.

*Al Friedman in his ’03 EVO took home 2nd place in the Q16. Al drove his ass off in the last two rounds on competition and he brought home a well deserved finish.

*Mike Wohler for taking home a 3rd place Q16 finish. I was routing for Mike as he had a very good shot at taking home the big prize money. Hopefully next year!!

*Eric Oberdorfer for taking third place in DSM Eliminator

*Curt Brown for running mid 9’s all day long until an axle failure took him out of the running. Curt street car is among the nicest examples of a DSM around. To top it off the car is fucking fast and drove it from Pennsylvania to race

*John Shepherd for cleaning up in EVO Eliminator. John 2003 EVO is a pure street car and he drove it to a multitude of 9.9x passes throughout the day like it was a bracket car.
*AWD Motorsports for cleaning up in the dyno competion on Saturday with a killer 800+hp on there T3 set-up. That’s an excellent number considering the size of the turbo and the number was made on Buschur’s “heart breaker” dyno.

Can’t wait to see everyone next year!!

This is my blog…

June 26th, 2009 ron 1 comment

There are many like it, but this one is mine!

Welcome to it and hopefully I will stay on top of this with random babbling and news updates. I haven’t stayed on top of updates to the current web site or our forums lately as I have been overrun with work for a long time. I’ve decided to take a little more “me” time to enjoy life and keep things updated. A lot has happened here with products and typical random shit that I have not made public. The plan is to change that and keep this blog updated and find a way to enter old blurbs and updates that I’ve kept all to myself. Please feel free to leave comments and commence with the ball busting. With that said, Welcome!

Chris @ EVT Motorsports is working on a new web site that will hopefully be unveiled soon. I think it looks sweet and has all kinds of new behind the scenes gadgets to make it easy for me to update things. If anyone is in need of some design work Chris is the man to call.

One last thing for now. A wicked storm came through last night and I caught one cool picture. I have this cool picture to thank for frying the business file server and I no longer have access to any of the company files. The kick ass built in back up system hasn’t successfully completed a full backup since sometime in March. Fucking wonderful, and for anyone using a Raid 0 server I suggest you rethink things.
