Shearer Fab teams up with SAM Racing…
I’m excited to annouce that Shearer Fab is teaming up with SAM Racing for the buildup of a twin turbo 2010 Camaro SS build. The goal of the project is build a drag radial class car capable of running mid 7 second 1/4 mile passes. The progress of the project will be followed by Hot Rod Magazine as well! Here’s a copy of the press release from SAM…
“The School of Automotive Machinists is pleased to announce its latest project, a 2010 Camaro.
The School ordered a 2010 Camaro after the 2008 PRI show and it arrived in Houston this summer. Our Camaro 2SS/RS is victory red with white racing stripes. This Chevy came equipped with an LS3 paired with a manual transmission.
As you can see from the pictures below, the newest SAM project is a Hot Rod Test Car and the build-up will be followed by Hot Rod Magazine. SAM’s new Camaro will compete in the True Street class at the 2009 LSX Shootout in Memphis. For the Shootout, we will run a LMR cold air intake, a Comp Cams hydraulic roller cam, American Racing Headers, and LS3 Chevy Heads ported at SAM.
After Memphis, Ron Shearer with Shearer Fabrications and Brian Nutter with Wiseco will drive the car to Ohio where Ron will custom fabricate a twin turbo system. This will be the beginning of the Camaro’s transformation to a 7 second drag radial car. Although we have had much success with our naturally aspirated Camaros and Mustang, SAM is excited to have its first power adder join our team of high performance cars.
While the car is in Ohio, the SAM instructors and students will be working hard on the Camaro’s new engine, an ERL sleeved 440 ci aluminum block. We look forward to keeping you updated on this exciting project. For more information about this project, please visit our website at www.samracing.com or follow the project in Hot Rod Magazine.
